A few words from Charles Hayes, Jr., founder and publisher of The Kentucky Explorer: As many of you may know, The Kentucky Explorer was a monthly magazine devoted to all aspects of Kentucky. I founded the little magazine in June of 1986, and it closed in October of 2020 after a run of 35 years. It was a popular magazine, but my old age and the death of my wife, plus the Covid 19 plague brought the Explorer to a close. However, even today there seems to be much interest in the content of the magazine. Of course, it would be difficult to find all of the back copies, and the expense would be great.

Thus, I decided to offer all back issues in a digital format to all who might want them at what I think is a very reasonable price. I have to admit it was a big job scanning every page of every magazine (34,016 pages!), but now that it is completed, I am thankful our little magazine will live on through the ages. I had orginally planned on using the DVD format, but today many do not have a DVD reader. So, I decided to use a flash drive, and I like it much better. It’s hard to believe every issue of The Kentucky Explorer is on this one handy flash drive!

This is a rare opportunity for those who have an interest and love for the story of Kentucky. I don’t think there has ever been so much information and enjoyable reading material concerning our state available so conveniently and at such a bargain price. You probaby have guessed by now that this is a personal project with me, and I am conducting it by myself, much in the same style as I used when I began the magazine in 1986.
